SEMI Europe Recognizes Owen Guy as the Academia Impact Award Recipient

MUNICH – November 18, 2025 – SEMI Europe today announced that Dr. Owen J. Guy, Professor of Chemistry at the Centre for Integrative Semiconductor Materials (CISM), Swansea University, received the prestigious SEMI Academia Impact Award at SEMICON Europa 2025. Presented during the CxO Summit, the award honors Dr. Guy’s outstanding contributions to semiconductor research, innovation, and industry-academia collaboration.

The SEMI Academia Impact Award recognizes university leaders whose pioneering work has not only pushed the boundaries of scientific knowledge but also driven real-world impact across the semiconductor ecosystem. The award celebrates individuals whose dedication, vision, and collaborative leadership are shaping the future of semiconductor technology and strengthening ties between academia, industry, and government.

“Europe’s semiconductor resilience relies on visionary leaders like Dr. Guy, who not only advance technology but also cultivate the talent that will carry our industry forward,” said Laith Altimime, President of SEMI Europe. “His dedication to leadership, mentorship, and collaboration reflects the qualities Europe needs to strengthen its talent pipeline and global competitiveness. We are proud to honor a mentor who continues to inspire the next generation of semiconductor leaders.”

“I’m deeply honoured to receive the SEMI Impact Award," said Dr. Guy. "This recognition reflects the collective effort of our community in advancing semiconductor education, outreach and skills — from our close collaboration with SEMI through the Talent Forums and ChipQuest Challenge, to our research within the Compound Semiconductor Cluster and European consortia on silicon carbide, graphene, and manufacturing innovation across Europe. I’m proud to contribute to shaping the next generation of semiconductor talent and technology."

The SEMI Academia Impact Award also reflects SEMI’s broader commitment to developing the next generation of semiconductor talents. Through initiatives such as SEMI on CampusNextGen Talent, and ChipQuest Challenge, SEMI Europe is working to strengthen the talent pipeline and build long-term workforce resilience. SEMI on Campus and NextGen Talent connect industry leaders with university students across Europe, highlight semiconductor career opportunities, and foster dynamic collaboration between academia and industry. The ChipQuest Challenge invites students from primary school through university to create videos introducing semiconductor technologies to younger learners, inspiring curiosity and awareness about the world of chips from an early age.

By bringing together insights from semiconductor leaders, educators, and students, SEMI is helping define best practices for attracting, developing, and retaining top talent. These programs empower learners with real-world exposure, hands-on pathways, and direct connections to employers, supporting skill development, career readiness, and inclusive participation in one of the world’s most critical technology sectors.
