Who we are
The Global Supplier Opportunity Network (GSON), includes representation by SEMI members (manufacturers, OEMs and materials suppliers) who are devoted to developing and expanding the number of suppliers throughout the semiconductor manufacturing value chain and breaking down barriers between manufacturers and suppliers.
Under Supply Chain Management, the GSON working group will continue to foster understanding of varied suppliers in the manufacturing space, align stakeholders on pre-competitive issues, and develop growth opportunities for SEMI businesses and their partners in the global semiconductor manufacturing supply chain. We accomplish this through:
• Awareness - Create matchmaking opportunities between buyers and varied suppliers in the manufacturing space
• Ability - Increase the opportunity to do business with prime suppliers and end users. Suppliers must "win the bid" based on quality and merit.
• Adoption - Increase use of these suppliers within the manufacturing space

Key Facts
The company is a business that is at least 51 percent owned, controlled, operated, and managed by an individual(s) from under-represented and/or under-utilized group as currently supported by local law.
Scope:
1. Global: General criteria – 51% owned and operated
2. Region/Country: Specific diverse categories as recognized by local laws. WBE is the most commonly recognized category outside of U.S. Some categories are country specific, e.g. Veteran
3. Company/Program level: Custom selection of accepted certifications, sources of certifications and NGOs
Creating opportunities for companies which meet the global definition is a business strategy that expands businesses opportunities in the procurement of goods within an organization. Groups vary globally in accordance with local laws but often include underrepresented groups such as women and local in-country minorities. Companies are currently certified by being at least 51 percent owned, operated, and controlled by these individuals. Supplier opportunity does NOT include lowering bidding standards or awarding business based on supplier status. The GSON encourages participation by suppliers which support the manufacturing process.
As part of SEMI Supply Chain Management, the GSON working group will focus on three pillars:
Awareness – Increase awareness of the benefits of having varied suppliers within the value chain. The GSON working group has developed a Best Industry Standard to distribute globally.
Ability – Increase the ability of varied company owners to compete on equal footing and win competitive bids with prime suppliers and end users
Adoption – Increase the adoption of varied suppliers with the semiconductor industry based on their performance.
Key benefits include:
- Promoting competition that drives improved innovation and cost savings.
- Enables companies with expanded supplier programs to qualify for new opportunities that require varied supply chains.
- Aligns with common corporate values such as fairness and awarding business to the best supplier.
