ESG Working Groups

These broader, non-climate, Working Groups are led by volunteers and most are open to SEMI Members (in good standing) with an interest and ability to contribute to the overall effort.  To request membership in any of these groups, fill in this FORM, and specify which WG you would like to join.

SEMI Circularity: Waste Working Group

• Circularity WG: Waste & Priority Materials
  • Objective:  Collaborate across the semiconductor value chain to develop new analyses and frameworks that equip companies to eliminate waste and pollution, circulate products and materials.

  • Schedule: Choose the session that suits your schedule.
    • Europe/America: Wednesdays every 4 weeks at 7:15-8 AM Pacific Time / 4:15-5 PM Central European Time
    • Asia/America: Thursdays every 4 weeks at 9-9:45 AM Singapore Time / 6-6:45 PM Pacific Time (1 day prior)

SEMI Water Management Working Group

• Objective:  Collaborate across the semiconductor value chain to create maturity roadmaps that convey prioritized solutions and inventory that takes stock of shared opportunities for solution innovation.
• To request membership in this group, fill in this FORM, and specify why you wish to join.
• Schedule: Launching July 31, 2024. Choose the session that suits your schedule.

Startups for Semiconductor Sustainability (S3) Committee

• Charter:  Deliver sustainability solutions to the semiconductor industry by curating and enabling Clean Tech startup innovations to see the semiconductor industry need and use case, through mentoring, pitch events, and matching with potential supporters.
• Project:  Execute on annual startups awareness and S3 competition.
• This WG's meeting and membership are open by request to Corporate Venture Capitalists with ties to the semiconductor or electronics industry.

Double Materiality Assessment Working Group

• Objective:  Develop systematic materiality assessment processes to effectively identify and prioritize ESG issues that are most significant to the semiconductor value chain.  Use this process to help prioritize activity.
• Schedule: Tuesdays every 4 weeks at 8-9 AM Pacific Time / 5-6 PM Central European Time

Environmental Risk Mitigation and Reporting WG

• Objective: Serve as a peer-to-peer learning platform for member companies, foster networking and knowledge sharing, and provide resources and guidance around climate risk and opportunity assessments in alignment with the Taskforce on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD).
• Schedule: Launching Phase 2 in August 2024 when regular meetings will resume at day/time TBD.

Climate & Social Impact (CSI) Working Group

• Objective: Connect and support our member and industry efforts to open eyes and hearts to caring for the Earth by sharing information on non-emission-related activities by building synergies between semiconductor and technology institutions to prioritize climate and social justice initiatives, reaching global demographics through education, outreach and partnerships.
• Projects:
  • The Promise:  Semiconductor Professionals Impacting 1M Lives
  • Employee Action and Resource Group Best Practices sharing & workshops
  • Impact Partners - Focus on climate issues impacting the most vulnerable communities and children's health
  • Guest speakers
  • Innovation Sprint to assist in aligning and defining goals on an industry level
• Schedule: Wednesdays every 2 weeks at 8-9 AM Pacific Time / 5-6 PM Central European Time

Carbon Markets Working Group

• Objective:  collaborate to build a network of partners, vendors, and tools in the VCM space to help members achieve decarbonization goals, particularly for residual emissions and to define baseline standards and practices for our industry.  
• Projects:  Basic guidelines and practices for meaningfully engaging in the VCM space
• Meeting Schedule:  Every 4 weeks.
• Report from SEMICON SEA Sustainability Forum 2025:  Catalyzing a Net-Zero Semiconductor Value Chain    

SEMI Standards TF:  Environmental Performance Rating (register through SEMI Standards)

• Develop standardized methods to "score" sustainability by using the SEMI Standards process.  Learn More.
