CEHN

The Children’s Environmental Health Network (CEHN) is a national, multi-disciplinary organization whose mission is to protect the developing child from environmental health hazards and promote a healthier environment. Today, CEHN is the voice of children’s environmental health in the nation’s capital, one that is uniquely informed by a strong basis in pediatric and environmental health science. A cornerstone of CEHN's efforts is the Eco-Healthy Child Care® (EHCC) program, the only national initiative of its kind for over 14 years. EHCC provides essential training, resources, and technical assistance to child care professionals, helping them reduce or eliminate toxicants in early learning environments such as Head Start, Early Head Start, and family child care centers. By promoting eco-friendly, cost-effective practices, EHCC ensures safer, healthier settings for young children and staff.

On a global scale, CEHN is leading the launch of the Global Children’s Environmental Health Network, a coalition dedicated to advancing climate equity for children's health. Understanding that children are disproportionately impacted by climate change, this network will collaborate with diverse partners to develop innovative solutions for a healthier, more equitable future for all children.

In the U.S., October is recognized as Children's Environmental Health Month—a crucial period for raising awareness, education, and advocacy around the protection of children's environmental health. This month underscores the essential need to safeguard children’s health and well-being, underscoring CEHN’s mission to foster a healthier environment for future generations.

The Climate Equity Collaborative™ (CEC) is a public-private partnership that engages partners in climate innovation and climate action. We advance climate action at the systems-level by centering our initiatives on climate education, children’s environmental health, environmental justice, and to construct more on-ramps to the global climate conversation by building impactful partnerships.

The CEC is focused on opportunities for children (K-12), college-aged and pre-career youth from underserved groups which are not sufficiently engaged and historically under-resourced in the climate conversation, STEM learning, public health decision-making, and job opportunities.

We assist our corporate partners to build programs which address net-zero commitments; future workforce needs; environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG); and equity in our changing global climate.

Keep the Bay Beautiful is a nonprofit organization committed to reducing electronic waste and household hazardous emissions. By simplifying the recycling process for communities and raising awareness about proper disposal methods, the organization has successfully collected over 45,000 pounds of e-waste. They’ve also forged partnerships with groups like Evergreen IT Solutions, ADL Process, and The San Jose Conservation Corps, creating a united front for this cause. Additionally, in collaboration with the San Francisco Environmental Department, they developed a household hazardous waste information app to expand their outreach and impact. Ultimately, Keep the Bay Beautiful's efforts represent a significant stride toward a healthier environment for future generations and serve as a powerful inspiration for young people to speak out and take action on the issues they care about.

CEC Youth Network youth-led

In early 2024, the Climate Equity Collaborative (CEC) launched its inaugural Youth Advisory Council (YAC) to ensure that CEC’s governance and actions are youth-informed and youth-centered. The 2024 Council comprises 14 individuals, aged 19-28, who bring a wealth of knowledge and experiences to CEC's network. Throughout their early careers, these climate leaders have advocated for community-based solar projects, engaged in urban green space restoration, researched restorative and sustainable agriculture practices, and worked within federal climate spaces, among other impactful initiatives. The YAC has been instrumental in shaping CEC’s immediate and near-term strategies, using their diverse perspectives to review and refine the organization’s internal structures and provide input on meaningful youth engagement.
