Digital technology requires access to data to deliver value. The challenge is that trust in all of our institutions is eroding and, in the absence of trust, people and companies are going to be less willing to provide access to data about themselves.

The fundamental challenge and opportunity is to re-build trust and gain privileged access to data. One of the key ways to re-build trust is to provide more tangible value back to those who are providing data based on the data they have provided.

Companies today generally focus on using the data they are provided to increase the efficiency of their operations and to more efficiently target customers to generate more revenue. Is that all there is?

SMART MedTech Virtual Workshop Series: Biomarker Sensing and Diagnostics for Telemedicine

Backgound:  Since August 2015, NBMC has been conducting forums for understanding, education, and promotion of non-invasive human performance monitoring technology and manufacturing. Previous Workshops (formerly called Blood Sweat and Tears) brought together industry and university innovators to explore current products research innovations, and technical challenges with a focus on the needs of medical professionals and their patients, Army and Air Force personnel and high-performance athletes.

Program Overview:  This workshop explored advancements in the state of digital health innovations critical to the success of human performance monitoring with an emphasis on advanced electronics.  Innovations in devices, software and chemistries, will enable new products in digital health, personalized medicine, new human-performance monitoring and augmentation capabilities, aeromedical-monitoring and diagnostics for en route care.

The ideal future state is real time monitoring of biochemical and physiological markers that can guide optimization of human performance and health.  Although some claim to do that now - professionals need more and better accuracy, and more reliable and intelligent diagnostics before implementing and trusting new devices.

Innovations in the public sector are springboards for new products in digital health and personalized medicine. Since 2013, seventeen separate programs with more than two dozen organizational participants developed materials, electronics, microfluidics, manufacturing processes and algorithms to create low cost, wearable sensors. Most of these integrated sensing systems communicate wirelessly and incorporate high performance silicon devices that are designed to move with the individual.

Workshop Topics include:

  • Telemedicine, Telemonitoring, Telementoring (TM3)
  • Biological molecular identification and sensor development
  • AI applied to human health and performance
  • Human Wearables devices
  • From Biomarkers to Biochemical Sensors, Important Factors to Consider for Physiological Relevancy
  • En Route CARE (ERC) Aeromedical Evacuation (AE) system & Point of Care (POC) diagnostics

The SMART MedTech Virtual Workshop Series links markets with manufacturing for medical relevancy – addressing both ends of the ecosystem. The forum brought together the players across the growing range of industries that are entering or advancing human monitoring applications, to:

  • Share competitive ideas that may be applied to product development.
  • Assess roadblocks in bringing human monitoring products to market.
  • Form partnerships that have become key in overcoming obstacles to successful manufacturing and product development.

Join NBMC experts who are at the cutting edge of product design and manufacturing techniques. Indeed, the success of previous workshops was based on the unique membership of NBMC, where product and manufacturing-oriented engineers from industry, universities, and government labs form teams and pool resources (financial as well as technical) to accelerate human monitoring product development into manufacturing prototypes.

The worldwide expansion of MEMS and photonic devices in Consumer, Automotive, and IoT applications is driving new requirements to the supply chain. Advanced substrates are needed to meet these requirements. Applying standardization to advanced substrates will aid efficient use of material, reduce cycle time and provide product cost reduction. SEMI’s MEMS & Sensors Industry Group (MSIG) aims to enable such standards.

Recently, MSIG’s multi-company, industry-collaborative Manufacturing Working Group published the SEMI MS12 standard- Specification for Silicon Substrates Used in Fabrication of MEMS Devices.  The SEMI MS12 document provides information on 150 mm and 200 mm diameter customized silicon substrates to be used for MEMS device fabrication, including physical dimensions, surface conditions, and basic electrical properties. Utilizing this guidance will allow the stocking of standard material, lowering the time to purchase, simplifying front-end operations, reducing time to market and lowering unit costs significantly.

This webinar will showcase three case studies demonstrating how the cost of ownership can be enhanced through various MEMS substrate platforms. Substrate manufacturers can apply the MEMS standardization and bring added value to their customers.

1. Cost savings with better integration and elimination of front-end process steps at customer site

2. Cost-savings through better flatness capabilities enabling significant die shrink and new capabilities for the customer.

3. Advantages of patterned SOI – i.e.) Silicon interposer on C-SOI® platform

Jim and Simon will take their audience on a stroll through the story of a fledgling, bootstrapped startup that’s become a profitable player in a new category called IP Lifecycle Management — IPLM, for short — targeting chip designers.

With Jim navigating, they will explore Simon’s vision and reasons why Methodics pursued this application space. Audience members will learn how Methodics expanded the definition of product lifecycle management (PLM) in the Enterprise Software segment into IPLM for a design-centric view of the semiconductor IP lifecycle. Along the way, as they will explain, Methodics became profitable and paved PLM’s “last mile,” allowing for the completion of the “digital thread” from system design all the way to the semiconductor level.
