The COVID-19 pandemic has heightened the urgency to establish the manufacturing capacity needed to support the global recovery and onward rapid growth of the semiconductor industry, which is projected to exceed $1.2 trillion in revenue by 2030.

The need to digitally transform – and help member companies do the same – is not lost on SEMI. We are currently supporting members and have plans to significantly expand and enhance our own digital engagement platforms.

After ther disruption caused by COVID-19, four of SEMI’s seven flagship events, SEMICON Europa, SEMICON West, SEMICON Japan, and SEMICON Taiwan are set to welcome back exhibitors and visitors to show floors starting in mid-November.

SEMI Europe’s advocacy team is a key force in influencing public policy in areas of strategic importance to the region’s semiconductor industry, making SEMICON Europa the ideal venue for addressing industry-shaping trends and enacting change on policy issues. 

SEMI spoke with Bob Smith, executive director of the Electronic System Design (ESD) Alliance, a SEMI Strategic Association Partner, about how the integration of the ESD Alliance with SEMI’s global platforms is extending design expertise in the worldwide electronics industry.

The Cybersecurity Act (Regulation (EU) 2019/881), Europe’s first consolidated cybersecurity certification framework, took effect on 28 June 2019 to establish information and communication technology (ICT) product security certification standards for the European Union (EU).

The project, MADEin4, connects nearly 50 European manufacturers and research and technology organizations (RTOs) to drive Industry 4.0 solutions for the European semiconductor manufacturing industry.

With the rise of AI, governments worldwide are accelerating the implementation of data economy and regulations to protect sensitive data traversing AI networks. The European Commission is making progress with initiatives aimed at improving the efficient use of data across the EU.

In a bid to reinvigorate Europe’s electronics strategy and strengthen the region’s position in key emerging technologies, European electronics industry CEOs in June called on public and private actors to accelerate collaboration at the European Union and national levels.
