Coming in the wake of the COP27, the Smart and Green Manufacturing Summit at SEMICON Europa 2022 (Munich, 15-17 November) had a timely focus on the semiconductor industry’s contribution to meeting the United Nations’ target of limiting global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

Kate Wilson, president of the semiconductor division at Edwards Vacuum, has already made progress in tackling critical issues like reducing Edwards’ carbon footprint, building an inclusive workplace, and contributing to overcoming the global chip shortage.

With semiconductor sales expected to double to $1.2 trillion USD in the next 10 years, the microelectronics industry must address rising geopolitical trade tensions, countries pursuing chip supremacy ahead of global supply chain collaboration, and talent shortfalls noted Ajit Manocha, CEO of SEMI.

After ther disruption caused by COVID-19, four of SEMI’s seven flagship events, SEMICON Europa, SEMICON West, SEMICON Japan, and SEMICON Taiwan are set to welcome back exhibitors and visitors to show floors starting in mid-November.
