The next turn will take us out of the MEMS labyrinth or further inside?

Abstract

In a gloomy economic environment, the MEMS industry is holding up. Following the semiconductor industry, MEMS had its best year so far, but with a slower YoY growth than expected. Consumer and automotive are responsible for almost 80% of the $11.5B market in 2018, driven mainly by inertial, pressure, microphone, infrared, RF and optical MEMS. Big players are competing in their corresponding established markets, eating up each other’s share of the pie. Competition therefore is getting fierce with each player struggling for differentiation in order to dominate the market. Piezoelectric tech, sensor fusion, AI & edge computing take the MEMS industry by hand up to the next corner of the market labyrinth. Will they lead it out to new horizons and further growth? Join the webcast regarding the status of the MEMS industry to find out!

Silicon Desert—An Oasis of Innovation

Since the early 1950’s, Arizona has been an oasis in the desert for tech companies, with many established names making their home here. Today, with the recent enactment of the Creating Helpful Incentives to Produce Semiconductors—CHIPS for America Act, aimed at incentivizing U.S. semiconductor technology leadership and manufacturing, strengthening supply chains, and re-establishing U.S. trade leadership, the greater Phoenix area has never been more attractive.

Given the benefits of land prices, stable infrastructure, generous state and city incentives, highly recognized universities, a skilled workforce, and a lack of natural disasters, it’s easy to see why many companies are choosing Arizona for expansion, relocation, or a startup. Includes presentation on National Semiconductor Economic Roadmap

Join the SEMI Arizona Chapter on November 17, 2021 to see what Arizona has to offer and how our ecosystem is growing and how Arizona is becoming the premier location in the nation for semiconductor production, talent, and research.

Despite earlier thoughts that semiconductor wet processing would be supplanted by dry, the quantity and variety of wet chemicals used in semiconductor manufacturing increases with each new technology generation. Chemical quality and purity requirements are also increasing in tandem with usage, creating new and novel challenges to manufacture, analyze, and use these chemicals. This webinar will provide insights on this issue from the perspective of both the fab and a supplier of chemistries and contamination control solutions. Dr. Thomas Phely-Bobin, Director, Global Applications Development at Entegris, will discuss the control of various impurities in liquids used in semiconductor manufacturing. Following Dr. Bobin will be Dr. Dhiman Bhattacharyya, Technical Staff at GLOBALFOUNDRIES speaking about "Impurities Impact on Performance and High Volume Manufacturing."

This topic will also be among those addressed in a Risk Reduction TechTALK to be held at SEMICON West in July, so be sure to attend both to hear experts addressing a wide range of issues vital to the future of advanced semiconductor manufacturing.

Concluding Remarks

A SEMI Smart Manufacturing Hosted Webinar

SEMI’s 2nd annual webinar on Smart Manufacturing continues on Establishing the Foundation for Smart Manufacturing. It was organized to be both informative, based on pressing critical topics derived from key players across the supply chain, and interactive, including an open panel session of industry experts to discuss topics such as: self-assessments, MES, fault detection, big data, automation and connectivity from a microelectronics fab, OSAT and EMS perspective.

SEMI will present a summary of its past, present and future stakeholder identified activities aligned to Industry 4.0 key initiatives, emerging roadmaps and standards. In specific, guest speakers will provide insight into best practices for vendor data sharing policies, maximizing overall equipment efficiencies, while also addressing the leveraging of digital twins, data architectures, machine learning, and artificial intelligence for automated operational decision-making and control in factories.

This webinar will highlight critical topics that will be further discussed at SEMICON West and at the SEMI Smart Manufacturing Workshop to be held in September.
