With sustainability and workforce development two big themes at SEMICON West 2022, Françoise von Trapp of 3D InCites caught up with Ajit Manocha, SEMI President and CEO; Shari Liss, Executive Director of the SEMI Foundation; and Mousumi Bhat, Vice President of SEMI Sustainability Programs, at the event for updates on SEMI’s work in both areas, critical to the future of semiconductor manufacturing.
von Trapp also spoke to new SEMI Americas President Joe Stockunas about SEMICON West 2022 highlights, takeaways from the keynote talks, plans for the future of SEMICON West and his top priorities for SEMI Americas programs.
The interview with Manocha and Bhat focuses on climate change and SEMI’s work to support industry-wide collaboration in setting achievable goals so that the industry can cut its carbon emissions in half by 2030 and reach net zero by 2050. They also discussed next steps and top priorities for a Semiconductor Industry Sustainability Roadmap.
Liss talked about the new SEMI Career Exploration Platform, designed to help diversify and grow the U.S. semiconductor workforce, that was announced at SEMICON West 2022. Liss and von Trapp also discussed the SEMI image and awareness program for the microelectronics industry and its aim to help build a diverse talent pipeline vital to continuing industry innovation and growth.
