On October 24, 2019, SEMI Korea held the Backend Automation Trend Seminar for the development of Korea semiconductor back-end industry for the first time.
Major players in back-end area such as JCET Stats ChipPAC, Hana Micron, Samsung SDS, Besi, and Miracom participated as speakers to discuss the needs for manufacturing automation and to present their best practices, sharing their knowledge with over 130 attendees from 50 companies.
As a keynote, HK Jin (JCET Stats ChipPAC) presented a roadmap for automation from the OSAT point of view and explained that the smart factory investment is essential to survive in the 4th industrial revolution.
YS Lim (Miracom Inc) shared various use cases. He said SECS/GEM, already widely used in the front-end, will be a good tool for building backend automation systems as well. He also pointed out that having back-end oriented standards will help to reduce initial investment cost.
Many of attendees agreed that it was valuable time to share ideas and discuss the future of back-end area in automation point of view. Additionally it was good chance for SEMI members to understand that back-end area has great potential for future SEMI Standards development.
