World Fab Forecast Report (2020 to 2022). Published March 3, 2021

Report Update:

1. The report lists a total of 1375 facilities/lines including 101 future facilities/lines with various probabilities that will start volume production in 2021 or later.
2. The report is tracking active investments (combination of construction and equipment) in the report time frame of 2020 to 2022 of 494 fabs and lines of 144 companies in 22 countries.
3. Since the last publication on Dec 3, 2020, we made 241 changes to 224 fabs/lines. We added 26 new fabs/lines and deleted 6 fabs/lines.

Fab Equipment Investments:

1. We expect fab equipment spending to have 3 years of continuous growth in 2020, 2021 and 2022 making each year a record year.
2. After a 16% YoY increase in 2020, fab equipment spending for 2021 is expected to increase another 16% (15.7% or US$ 74.7 B).
3. Largest investment in 2021 are in the foundry sector, followed by Memory. Micro (with MPU) is expected to show some small decline, while Opto sector is increasing.
4. We expect continued strong spending in 2022 with 13% YoY of US$ 84.6 B) making it another record year.
5. In 2022 fab equipment spending for Memory and Micro (with MPU) increase while Foundry declines slightly.

Capacity:

1. Capacity for Memory continuous to grow at steady pace in single digits %YoY in 2021 and 2022.
2. Foundry capacity (including Foundry/IDM) shows increases in upper single digits % for 2021 and 2022.
3. Capacities for MPU, Power, and Opto are increasing in 2021 and in 2022.
4. 300mm capacity (excluding EPI, LED) increase by 8% in 2021 and 8% in 2022.
5. 200mm capacity (excluding EPI, LED) increases about 2% in 2021 and 2% in 2022.

New Fabs/Construction:

1. Construction spending in 2021 is increasing to US$ 16.3 B (+34%).
2. There are 18 new construction projects of volume fab in 2021 (not including R&Ds and pilots). We count 25 new construction projects if we include lower probability fabs and more if we include R&Ds and pilots.
3. Construction spending for 2022 continuous to rise with 10% or US$ 17.9 B.
4. There are 10 new construction projects of volume fab in 2022 (not including R&Ds and pilots). We count 11 new construction projects if we include lower probability fabs and more if we include R&Ds and pilots.
