On July 24th, 2019, the F-GEM (Flow-shop Generic Equipment Model) Task Force was formed under the Japan Chapter of the Automation Technology (AT) Global Technical Committee to study GEM (Generic Equipment Model) for flow shop type manufacturing lines.
The well-known SEMI E30, Specification for the Generic Model for Communications and Control of Manufacturing Equipment (GEM), is a core SEMI Information and Control Standard for semiconductor front-end-process factory, and have been supporting highly complicated production control with the data oriented smart manufacturing environment.
Similar SEMI Standards that make other manufacturing lines than semiconductor front-end-process smarter is expected, however, most of those manufacturing lines are flow shop type though semiconductor front-end-process factories are job shop type.
Though there have been some activities to apply a subset of SEMI E30 to those flow shop type manufacturing lines, they are not enough to support manufacturing line with the different topology efficiently and smartly, and development of GEM for flow shop type manufacturing lines is essential.
The AT Technical Committee has already developed SEMI A1, Specification for Horizontal Communication (HC) Between Equipment for Factory Automation System and SEMI A1.1, Specification For Media Interface for a Horizontal Communication (HC) Between Equipment, as the equipment communication protocol for flow shop type manufacturing lines. The F-GEM Task Force will study GEM for flow shop type manufacturing lines that works on SEMI A1/A1.1 and will develop standards as needed.
