New Version of SEMI S2-0724 Published

By Kevin Nguyen, SEMI HQ

SEMI S2-0724, Environmental, Health, and Safety Guideline for Semiconductor Manufacturing Equipment, was recently released in July 2024, that incorporates more than 9 delayed revisions from a 3 year effort.

S2 revisions include the following sections/topics:

  • Considerations for High Pressure System
  • Equipment Decommissioning
  • Fire Protection
  • Flammable Substances
  • Invocation of SEMI S30 (Energetic Materials)
  • Lifting Equipment and Hinged Loads
  • Safety Labels

If you are using the previous version of S2 (i.e., S2-0821), you may consider acquiring the latest version of SEMI S2-0724.

Don’t know what exactly was changed? The new S2 version indicates changes throughout the document with sidebar(s) next to each revised or new section of S2, so you can identify what was changed.

Also, for the first time, SEMI is rolling out a S2 redline version, which indicates strikeout (as deletion) and underline (as addition) comparing with the previous version (SEMI S2-0821). The redline version will allow one to identify where the deletions and additions have occurred. Users have the option to purchase the latest version only or the latest version and the redline version.

Various EH&S task forces will continue working on revisions of SEMI S2 to adapt with the latest technology.  The next official S2 version is anticipated for publication in July 2027.
