SEMI Information & Control Taiwan Technical Committee Chapter Highlights

By Cher Wu, SEMI Taiwan

During the May meeting of the SEMI Taiwan Information & Control Technical Committee Chapter, the SNARF for Line-Item Revision to SEMI E187-0122, Specification for Cybersecurity of Fab Equipment (SEMI Draft Document 7103), drafted by the Fab Equipment & Cybersecurity Task Force (TF), was approved.

SEMI E187, Specification for Cybersecurity of Fab Equipment, has been released as the first cybersecurity standard for Fab equipment. SEMI E187 establishes the fundamental requirements for ensuring security for Fab equipment, serving as a general foundation. However, the implementation details remain flexible and open to negotiation between suppliers and users. The purpose of this SNARF is to enhance compliance with SEMI E187 by introducing a checklist that outlines its requirements. This checklist enables suppliers to conduct self-evaluations in advance, streamlining their efforts to comply with SEMI E187.

The proposed revision will include a comprehensive table of checklist items that provide detailed explanations for implementing each requirement specified in SEMI E187. This table will be attached to SEMI E187 as a reference tool to aid in the implementation of the requirements.

In addition, the Equipment Edge Data Governance (EEDG) TF recently finalized SEMI Draft Document 6938: New Standard - Guide for Equipment Edge Data Governance. The SEMI Taiwan team would like to extend a special appreciation to Mr. Albert Fuchigami of The PEER Group for his valuable contributions in coaching the team during the development of this document. The SEMI Draft Document 6938 was approved for voting issued in Cycle 5, 2023, which is now open. Make sure your company influences the development of Standards critical to the industry and vote today! Select Ballot Period "05-2023" and Ballot Committee "Information and Control". Consecutively, SEMI Taiwan and the Taiwan local government association Metal Industries Research & Development Centre (MIRDC) co-organized the SEMI E187 workshop for Taiwan local equipment and component suppliers gathering speakers from TSMC, ASE, PSMC and the Bureau Veritas Group. 27 representatives from local companies, academia and solution providers attended this workshop.
