New China Advanced Backend Factory Integration Task Force
By Clare Liu, Leader of the SEMI Information & Control Advanced Backend Factory Integration Task Force, Kxware Information Technology
In September 2021, SEMI Information & Control (I&C) China Technical Committee (TC) Chapter has organized a series of standard activities, including the SEMI I&C Standards Application Seminar on November 16th, I&C China TC Chapter Preparatory & Kickoff Meeting on November 17th, and the I&C China TC Chapter Winter Meeting on December 20th. The China I&C TC Chapter provides a platform for the industry to discuss the deployment status, field demands, and challenges to improve the factory automation and factory information system. Many industry companies and experts gathered at the technical committee chapter meeting.
During the I&C China TC Chapter Winter Meeting, the Advanced Backend Factory Integration Task Force (ABFI TF) was approved. Members from top backend companies such as Amkor, TongFu and JCET, major equipment OEMs such as Naura and SMEE, and Smart Manufacturing solution providers such as Kxware, Cimetrix and DingGe. The purpose of this task force is to explore, evaluate, discuss, and develop the equipment automation standards suite for backend tools (bump, chip probing, assembly, final test and sensor) that enable and enhance full automation process of packaging (including TSV, fan-out and WLCSP) and test for semiconductor manufacturing. The primary focus in this phase is to improve the GEM300 adoption, modify and develop standards suites for the advanced Backend manufacturing environment.
The China ABFI TF is actively working on a new SNARF, “Revision to SEMI E87-0921, Specification for Carrier Management (CMS) and SEMI E87.1-0921, Specification for SECS-II Protocol for Carrier Management (CMS)”. The scope of the activity will target solving some of its problems for SEMI E87 with backend specific equipment. The China ABFI TF is eager to work closely with global task forces, so the draft SNARF has been sent to ABFI, BFI, and GEM300 TFs of North America, Japan, Korea and Taiwan for feedback. The China ABFI TF is also proactively involved in the discussion of ongoing SNARFs and ballots of the North America ABFI TF.
With the globalized working principle, China ABFI TF will become an indispensable part of the SEMI I&C Global Technical Committee.
