Summary Highlights for SEMI Taiwan Standards Activities

By Cher Wu, SEMI Taiwan

Since the release of the SEMI E187, Specification for Cybersecurity of Fab Equipment, SEMI Taiwan standards staff held two E187 introduction webinars at Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC) & Advanced Semiconductor Engineering, Inc (ASE) in July 2022. PSMC and ASE supported and invite internal employees from various departments to participate the workshop, as well as their equipment supply chain. These two events attracted a total of 160 participants.

In August, the Equipment Edge Data Governance (EEDG) Task Force began drafting document 6938, New Standard: Guide for Equipment Edge Data Governance. Special thanks to Task Force Leader, Mr. KY Wang from Eunodata for leading the Taiwan team, as well as Albert Fuchigami’s contributions on coaching the team on document development. The draft ballot is expected to be submitted in of May next year.

In September, the SEMI Taiwan Technology Community, Cybersecurity Committee Working Group, met and worked on a SEMI E187 Reference Practice document. This document aims to define a common and minimum set of security requirements to secure semiconductor fab equipment by design and support security in operation and maintenance. The document also focuses on four major requirements of fab equipment such as computer operating systems, network security, endpoint protection, and security monitor. The purpose of this document is intended to provide guidance for the assessment of adopting practices in compliance with SEMI E187. If you would like to access the SEMI E187 Reference Practice document, please fill out this form.

In November, a round table meeting was held for further discussion on methods for evaluating equipment suppliers and operational technology when leveraging SEMI E187. There were 25 industry experts attending the meeting (photo below). SEMI plans to work with certification companies, equipment suppliers, users and research organizations to draft the evaluation methodology documentation.
