SEMI China Standards Compound Semiconductor Activity Highlights

Due to unique advantages in high power and high frequency, compound semiconductors have an irreplaceable position in industries such as information communication, optoelectronic applications and new energy vehicles. The Chinese government launched policies and industrial support funds to promote the development of compound semiconductors.

In response to this, SEMI China will organize the "SEMI Compound Semiconductor Materials TC Chapter Winter Meeting" in conjunction with the “SEMI Compound Semiconductor Materials Technology Forum” to be held December 14-15, 2022.

In Spring, the Technical Committee Chapter Meeting adjudicated Ballot 6693, New Standard: Specification for 4H-SiC Homoepitaxial Wafer. The document passed procedural review and will move forward to publications. This document will provide a basis for the production and raw material procurement of upstream and downstream enterprises in the industry chain, and to promote the healthy and orderly development of 4H-SiC Homoepitaxial Wafer industry chain.

The Committee also authorized the following documents for reballot:

  • Document 6767, New Standard: Test Method for Flatness of Silicon Carbide Wafers by Optical Interference
  • Document 6768, New Standard: Test Method for Micropipe Density of Silicon Carbide Wafer by Laser Reflection
  • Document 6769, New Standard: Test Method for Residual Stress of Silicon Carbide Wafers by Photoelastic

These three standards will cover 8 inches material size. The SEMI Compound Semiconductor Materials Technology Forum will involve topics including SiC, GaN, InP, Ga2O3, AlN, and more

Compound semiconductor materials are emerging as a critical strategic area in the global market. With the rapid advancement of 5G commercial use, the development of compound semiconductors will drive development opportunities in AI and vehicle electrification.
