SEMICON Japan Standards Awards

The SEMI International Standards Program is operated in all major electronics manufacturing regions including Americas, Europe, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and China to increase the manufacturing efficiency and interoperability. Over 5,000 volunteers representing over 2,000 companies work in 21 global technical committees and over 200 task forces to find solutions to common technology challenges.
The award announcement took place at the SEMI Standards Pavilion at SEMICON Japan 2020 Virtual, the world's leading international exhibition on the microelectronics manufacturing supply chain, which was held virtually on December 11, 2020.

SEMI Japan Standards Award
Mr. Hidetoshi Sakura, NuFlare Technology, Inc.

SEMI Japan Honor Award
Naoyuki J. Kawai, Meiji University

The SEMI Japan Standard Award is given to an individual or group that has made significant contributions to the Standards activities in Japan. It is the highest honor for the SEMI Standards in Japan and will be presented to Mr. Hidetoshi Sakura this year.
Mr. Hidetoshi Sakura has supported EHS Standards activities for a long time and enabled balanced development activities of EHS documents (S18, S21, S23, S24, etc.) from the viewpoint of a device maker during his tenure at his former company. After moving to his current position, he has continued to contribute to the improvement of the EHS Technical Committee in Japan and has made significant contributions to the promotion of education in the industry through the planning, operation and presenting of the STEP (Standards Technical Education Program).
The "SEMI Japan Honor Award" recognizes the members of the standards committee of Japan and the chairs of the Technical Committees. It is awarded to those who have been a member of the Technical Committee for many years, been an active chair, as well as the establishment and reorganization of the committee, and the establishment of many task forces. This year was awarded to Naoyuki J. Kawai.
Mr. Naoyuki Kawai has been a co-chair of the Global Silicon Wafer Japan TC Chapter for many years since 2006, and also contributed to the revitalization of standards activities as the chair of the Japan Regional Standards Committee for four years from 2014 to 2017. He also served as the chair and observer of the Study Group on Semiconductor Supply Chain Materials Standards of Japan Society of Newer Metals, and contributed greatly to the coordination between the two organizations and the promotion of standardization during the transfer of JEITA Standards to SEMI Standards.
