Semiconductor devices are widely used in aircraft, medical equipment, communication equipment (including 5G), and automobiles. Many counterfeit semiconductor devices are now distributed all over the world, causing major problems. In order for the conductor device market and the entire market in which it is used to develop soundly, it is essential to create a system in which counterfeit semiconductor devices are manufactured and not distributed to the market. Therefore, we started to develop global standards for anti-counterfeiting.

In 2018, the Equipment and Materials Traceability (EMT) Task Force and the Single Device Traceability (SDT) Task Force were formed under the North America (NA) TC Chapter of Traceability Global Technical Committee. As counterparts of them, to host discussions in Japan to support and complement revision and new standard development activities undertaken by the primary TF (these NA new activities), the Japan EMT liaison TF and the Japan SDT liaison TF were set up under the Japan TC Chapter in spring 2019.  The organization is as follows.

This year, the Japan TC Chapter of Traceability Global Technical Committee will hold an “Anti-Counterfeiting Workshop - Traceability Standards Activity Update” on the second day, Thursday, December 12, as one of TechSTAGE programs during SEMICON Japan 2019 at Tokyo Big Sight.

The two co-chairs of the Japan TC Chapter, Yoichi Iga (Expert / RSE Standardization Expert, Semiconductor Reliability Technical Committee of Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association) and Hirokazu Tsunobuchi (Manager, AUTO ID Division of Keyence) will make presentations as follows.

  • Introduction of SEMI Standards Traceability and Overview of IoT and Microelectronics Manufacturing Trusted Supply Chain
    • Detailed explanation of the background of these new activities will be provided
  • Introduction of new activity for Equipment and Materials Traceability (EMT) Task Force and Single Device Traceability (SDT) Task Force
    • The updates of the primary task forces in the North America region will be provided.
