Dr. Kamens has served as the Executive Director of Addgene since 2011. Addgene is a mission-driven, nonprofit dedicated to accelerating research by helping scientists around the world share reagents. Addgene is a Boston Globe #1 Top Place to Work 4 years running. Addgene is also one of the Top 100 Women Led Companies in Massachusetts.
Dr. Kamens received her PhD in Genetics from Harvard Medical School then spent 15 years at BASF/Abbott, ultimately serving as Group Leader in Molecular Biology.
In 2007 she joined RXi Pharmaceuticals as Senior Director of Research Collaborations. Dr. Kamens has been raising awareness of women scientists since 1998 upon realizing that an entire week had gone by at work and not one other woman had been at any meeting she attended. Dr. Kamens founded the current Boston chapter of the Association for Women in Science. She serves on a number of other nonprofit boards including as Vice Chair of the Seeding Labs BoD and advisor to the Scismic job board for scientists.
