John Chong, PhD has two decades of experience in the technology and startup space in roles ranging from HW Engineering and Software Design, to Sales & Marketing, Executive Management and Business Development. He advises companies, assisting in company startup, team building, R&D, product development (HW, SW, Semiconductors, MEMS, IoT, Sensors and Systems), Manufacturing and Test, Business Development, and Sales & Marketing. He also serves as Chairman of the Governing Council of the MEMS & Sensors Industry Group. Previous roles include Vice President of Product and Business Development at Kionix/ROHM, a global MEMS & Sensors manufacturer, and Director of Engineering at Calient Optical Components, a company focused on using Optical MEMS to support increased bandwidth through the automated management of fiber optic networks. He has demonstrated deep knowledge in a diverse and interdisciplinary set of technologies including MEMS/Micro/Nanotechnology, Semiconductors, Optics, Sensors, Internet of Things, Software & Solutions, Telecommunications and Biotechnology fields.
He completed his BS (‘93) and his PhD (‘99) in Electrical Engineering at Cornell University, where he worked on novel techniques for the design and manufacturing of Microfludic MEMS. John holds numerous patents and has spoken at conferences about MEMS, Sensors and the Internet of Things.
