Doug Solomon is an innovation consultant and currently serves as a Senior Fellow at the Palo Alto-based Institute for the Future and a long time innovation consultant at Lam Research. For six years, Doug was Chief Technology Officer at IDEO, the world’s premier innovation consulting company, working with clients to develop strategies and leverage technologies that create both business and social value. With more than 30 years of leadership experience at the intersection of technology, business and people, Doug has a particular interest in collaborative approaches that enable people to innovate in ways they never before thought possible. He currently focuses his time on the domains of strategy, health and wellness, technology, and innovation. Doug’s client companies range from leaders in consumer products, healthcare and technology, to small startups and non-profits.
Prior to joining IDEO, he was vice president of investments at Omidyar Network, where he helped pioneer a new approach to socially impactful for-profit investing. He was also senior vice president of corporate development and chief strategy officer at both Apple and Palm, and he held leadership positions at a Paul Allen-owned technology incubator, Interval Research, and several technology start-ups.
Doug is a volunteer chaplain at Stanford Hospital & Clinics in Northern California. He has three children, four grandchildren and a fabulous wife, who all continually teach him how to be a mensch. He earned a master’s degree from the East-West Center at the University of Hawaii, and a Ph.D. from Stanford University.
