The greatest opportunities to get more women into the construction industry are with craft professions, where the percentage of participation is much lower than professional staff. Women make up 47% of the total workforce but only 4% of the craft workforce.

Since last year’s adoption of the CHIPS and Science Act, aimed at bringing chip manufacturing back to the U.S. shores, global semiconductor companies have announced a plethora a new U.S. greenfield fab builds worth billions of dollars.

The Department of Commerce will spend $10B over a five-year period to establish “20 geographically distributed regional technology and innovation hubs.” These regional hubs will attract public and private investment capable of vitalizing or revitalizing the Silicon cities of the future.
