Future Standards at SEMICON Europa 2026
By Sara Scheuer, SEMI Europe
As Europe strengthens its position in an increasingly complex global semiconductor landscape, collaboration, innovation, and standardization are becoming more important than ever. Taking place from 10–13 November 2026 in Munich, Germany, SEMICON Europa 2026, co-located with electronica, will bring together industry leaders, policymakers, researchers, and technology experts to explore how Europe can build a unified, competitive, and sustainable semiconductor ecosystem that is resilient, globally connected, and prepared for the challenges of tomorrow.
Among the many activities taking place throughout the week, standards development will remain an important pillar, helping to align the industry around shared priorities and future technology needs.
SEMI Standards meetings will take place during SEMICON Europa from 10–12 November, bringing together Technical Committees and Task Forces working in the areas of Compound Semiconductor Materials, Gases and Liquid Chemicals, and Silicon Wafer technologies. These meetings provide an important forum for industry experts to collaborate on the development of globally recognized semiconductor standards.
A key highlight of this year's program will be the SEMI Global Standards Summit (GSS) 2026, taking place on 12 November 2026. Now in its third edition, the Global Standards Summit builds on the momentum of the past two events, providing a forum to identify potential areas for future standardization efforts.
In a context of increasing complexity across the global semiconductor ecosystem, emerging technologies, regulatory requirements, and advanced research spur the need for effective standards development. The 2026 Summit will explore these current needs and contribute to shaping a roadmap for the next three to seven years.
The Summit will focus on several topics, including sustainability and the role of standards in mitigating the impact of environmental regulations, standards for critical and emerging technologies, and future standards driven by current research and evolving industry priorities.
Bringing together experts from across the value chain, the Summit provides a platform to exchange technical perspectives and explore approaches to standards development and implementation, supporting resilience and innovation.
SEMICON Europa 2026 offers a unique opportunity to engage with the conversations shaping the future of the industry. The SEMI Global Standards Summit and related standards activities will provide a forum for identifying future challenges, fostering international collaboration, and developing the standards that will help drive innovation and industry readiness in the years ahead. As the semiconductor ecosystem continues to evolve, the importance of globally aligned standards has never been greater.
Join us in Munich this November and help shape the future of semiconductor standardization.
