Revisions to Regulations and Procedure Manual
By Kevin Nguyen, SEMI HQ
The International Standards Committee, the governing body of the SEMI International Standards Program, recently approved revisions to the Regulations Governing SEMI Standards Program. Corresponding changes to the Procedure Manual have also been approved.
Until now, there have been no procedures in place for SEMI and other standards development organizations (SDOs) to formally establish liaison relationships. This new Regulations version addresses this issue by including a new Section 18 which defines four types of liaisons. The synopsis for each type is as follows:
- Type I Liaison: Distribution of a draft document to a nonprofit organization for feedback.
- Type II Liaison: Coordination with another SDO in order to avoid overlap or duplication of effort in each organization’s respective work (usually, development of a standard).
- Type III Liaison: Contribution of technical expertise in standard(s) development work conducted by the International Organization for Standardization or the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) through an official representative of a Global Technical Committee.
- Type IV Liaison: Liaison for promoting a SEMI Standards Document through adoption by ISO or IEC.
The updated versions of the Regulations and the Procedure Manual will be effective at the Standards meetings during North America Spring Meetings 2020.
