John Smythe, PhD

John works in Technology Development Engineering at Micron Technology and leads cross-functional teams to address critical semiconductor process technology roadmap. John joined Micron in 2002 and has held various process technology positions since that time. Prior to joining Micron, John spent 22 years working in various aspects of semiconductor process technology, process integration, technology transfer and mask tooling for companies such as IBM, Fairchild, National Semiconductor and Zilog. John earned a BS in Ceramic Engineering (1980) and PhD in Materials Science & Engineering (2009) from the University of Washington, Seattle, WA. Dr. Smythe is an author of over 100 issued US Patents and several publications in the field of materials and semiconductor processing methods. He is Chair of the Industry Advisory Board of the Micron School of Materials at Boise State University and Vice Chairman of the External Advisory Board of the MSE Department at the University of Washington. He is a member of the Materials Research Society, American Vacuum Society and Distinguished Member of Technical Staff at Micron.
