Associate Professor Faculty of Information and Communication Technology
Ooi Boon Yaik obtained his PhD from the School of Computer Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia in year 2012. He is currently working as a Lecturer in Faculty of Information and Communication Technology, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR). He completed his MSc in Computer Sciences in year 2007.
His thesis is on CPU usage patterns discovery for resource utilization prediction in distributed environment such as grid and cloud computing. For his PhD, he continues to study on autonomic resource management solution for distributed environment. As distributed systems evolved into Internet-of-Things (IoT), he focuses his research on developing smart IoT-Gateway to improve connectivity and to reduce the management complexity of IoT solutions.
In the past few years, he was engaged as consultant by companies to design and implement proof-of-concept for Industry 4.0-related solutions.
In terms of teaching experience, he taught the following subjects in UTAR or Dream Catcher Consulting Sdn
Bhd customer.
1. Programming Concept and Design using C&C++
2. Data Structures and Algorithms
3. Object-Oriented Programming using Java.
4. Parallel Programming using Windows Threading, OpenMP and MPI.
5. Database Design and Applications using MySQL.
