World Fab Forecast Report (2021 to 2023). Published December 1, 2022.

Report Update:

  1. The report lists a total of 1470 facilities/lines including 162 future facilities/lines with various probabilities that will start volume production in 2022 or later.
  2. The report is tracking active investments (combination of construction and equipment) in the report time frame of 2021 to 2023 of 634 facilities and lines.
  3. Since the last publication on June 1, 2022, we made 268 changes to 209 fabs/lines. We added 16 new fabs/lines and deleted 1 fabs/lines.


Fab Equipment Investments:

  1. Fab equipment spending nearly $97B level with 7% YoY in 2022.
  2. Fab equipment in 2023 expected to drop by -16% to about US $82B.

 
Capacity:

  1. Capacity for Memory continues to grow with about 4% in 2022 but slows to less than 1% in 2023.
  2. Total Foundry capacity (including Foundry/IDM) shows about 11% increasing in 2022 and 7% in 2023.
  3. 300mm capacity (excluding EPI) increase by 9% in 2022 and 6% in 2023.
  4. 200mm capacity (excluding EPI) increase about 6% in 2022 and about 3% in 2023.

 
New Fabs/Construction:

  1. Construction spending is about US $30B in 2022 but slightly decreases to about US $28B in 2023.
  2. There are 31 new construction projects (Greenfields) of volume fab in 2022 (not including R&Ds and pilots).
  3. There are currently 23 known new construction projects (Greenfields) of volume fab in 2023 (not including R&Ds and pilots).
