World Fab Forecast Report (2021 to 2023). Published December 1, 2022.
Report Update:
- The report lists a total of 1470 facilities/lines including 162 future facilities/lines with various probabilities that will start volume production in 2022 or later.
- The report is tracking active investments (combination of construction and equipment) in the report time frame of 2021 to 2023 of 634 facilities and lines.
- Since the last publication on June 1, 2022, we made 268 changes to 209 fabs/lines. We added 16 new fabs/lines and deleted 1 fabs/lines.
Fab Equipment Investments:
- Fab equipment spending nearly $97B level with 7% YoY in 2022.
- Fab equipment in 2023 expected to drop by -16% to about US $82B.
Capacity:
- Capacity for Memory continues to grow with about 4% in 2022 but slows to less than 1% in 2023.
- Total Foundry capacity (including Foundry/IDM) shows about 11% increasing in 2022 and 7% in 2023.
- 300mm capacity (excluding EPI) increase by 9% in 2022 and 6% in 2023.
- 200mm capacity (excluding EPI) increase about 6% in 2022 and about 3% in 2023.
New Fabs/Construction:
- Construction spending is about US $30B in 2022 but slightly decreases to about US $28B in 2023.
- There are 31 new construction projects (Greenfields) of volume fab in 2022 (not including R&Ds and pilots).
- There are currently 23 known new construction projects (Greenfields) of volume fab in 2023 (not including R&Ds and pilots).
