Acoustic Transducers for Gas Sensing

ABSTRACT

The increasing commercial availability of quantum cascade lasers allows for the realization of gas detectors with very high sensitivity and specificity addressing the need to meet tight emissions regulations. We make use of double-resonant photo-acoustic spectroscopy coupled with QCL lasers to obtain background-free and inherently linear trace gas detectors. Our double-resonant MEMSPAS technology leverages custom MEMS designs with acoustic coupling engineering to push past the theoretical envelope of previous photo-acoustic platforms. This technology allows for extremely compact and versatile high-performance trace gas sensors.
