Industries globally are embracing the benefits of digital transformation made possible by ubiquitous wireless connectivity and secure, distributed cloud-edge computing. Although IoT ecosystems did not mature as quickly as expected initially, significant value creation wrought by enhancements to efficiency, safety, convenience, and other desired outcomes is well underway. This presentation considers the role of 5G in accelerating digital transformation enabled by IoT solutions. It will highlight the fundamental drivers in the development of 5G, the functionality and performance that enable new applications and business models, the status of 5G deployments globally, and the challenges and opportunities for many industries that arise in this exciting transition to 5G.
