Data Literacy in Samsung Semiconductor
ABSTRACT
The IT industry has experienced continuous growth, driven by transformative applications that are reshaping the way we live and work. Artificial intelligence (AI) is at the forefront of this evolution, advancing data analytics, machine learning, and operational efficiency. These advancements offer the semiconductor and equipment industries new opportunities to drive future innovation.
This presentation highlights how our company leverages data-driven insights to address industry challenges and harness AI-driven opportunities. By fostering a culture of data literacy and employing SARIMA (Seasonal Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average) models, we strive to enhance the accuracy of demand forecasts for smartphones—our primary application area. These forecasts are segmented by region and product category, allowing us to validate the needs of our partners and clients more precisely and make effective resource allocation decisions.
Additionally, we conducted a comprehensive analysis of the Bill of Materials (BOM) for 242 smartphone models using ensemble tree models integrated with Explainable AI (XAI). This approach enabled us to evaluate how the integration of advanced AI features impacts resource allocation across components, particularly from a cost perspective. These insights have supported more efficient production planning and informed resource prioritization strategies.
Our semiconductor technologies not only play a pivotal role in enabling data-centric approaches but also allow us to allocate resources more effectively across diverse applications. Through these efforts, we aim to collaborate with our partners and clients to drive meaningful innovation and contribute to the ongoing evolution of technology.
