Frequently Asked Questions & Answers

Membership

Is membership in the SCC restricted to current SEMI Members?

  • No, the SCC is a global semiconductor ecosystem activity.

Is membership in the SCC restricted to companies in the semiconductor industry value chain?

  • Currently yes. Part of our mission is to provide a framework for collaboration on common issues facing the semiconductor value chain. If you have questions whether you would qualify, please contact [email protected] to discuss further.

What are the terms of being a member?

Can we request a change to the Membership Agreement?

  • At this time, the Agreement is finalized by the SCC inaugural Working Group and changes are not possible. Future changes will be proposed and ratified by the Governing Council upon its formation (estimated 1/5/23).

Where do we send signed Agreements to join the SCC?

Is the consortium looking for partners that want to support your effort, but not be a member?

  • Yes, the consortium is interested in partnering with like-minded organizations or associations that are synergistic to our mission and vision of collaboration across the semiconductor value chain. Reach out to [email protected] for more information.

Member Benefits

What are the benefits of being a member?

What was a 'Founding Member'?

  • Organizations which committed to the SCC before October 21, 2022 are recognized as 'Founding Members' in all SCC branding and marketing materials until the Governing Council deems it is not longer necessary. Founding, Leadership Level members will be electable to the Governing Council in the first year, help set priorities for the SCC, drive decisions of the workstreams, receive SCC reports, and will be included in promotion activities leading up to and included in COP27 in Egypt in November 2022.

How many Founding Members are there?

  • The SCC has more than 60 Founding Members.

Are members required to participate in all workstreams (main pillars) and working groups (teams formed around one topic)?

  • Members are not required to participate in any or all work streams. They are free to choose which streams they wish to provide their support and enhance the collaboration on that topic. If a member has a Governing Council position, they are in the position to adopt new work streams and set the annual agenda and focus areas.

Are members allowed to use the SSC Logo?

  • Yes, members in good standing will be able to use the logo in their own public communications and reporting.

Dues and Fees

What do the fees support?

  • SEMI is managing the legal, communications and other general administration functions. There are also initiatives requiring consultancy, research, and reporting which will require funding. The SCC will have a Governing Council which will liaise with SEMI to request focus funds for the SCC budget and provide direction on priorities.

What are the Membership Fees?

  • Inaugural fees, to start up the SCC, are set at 2 levels:  Leadership Level is $40,000 (SEMI Members) and $50,000 (SEMI non-member). Participant Level is $15,000 (both SEMI Member and non-members). Fees will be re-assessed annually by the SEMI Manager and the Governing Council based on funds available, budget and anticipated activities. Inaugural fees are due in January 2023.

Key Focus Areas

Do members have to report progress on climate matters, such as GHG reductions, to the SCC every year?

  • No. The SCC is not a reporting or disclosure organization. As a member of the SCC, you would be aligning to the SCC vision that transparency is a key commitment along with Ambition and Collaboration. Members will need to be aligned that they are striving toward reporting their Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions in their own disclosure reporting. However, the SCC will not dictate how that disclosure reporting must be conducted. The SCC will have work streams dedicated to reporting, such as the planned Scope 3 work stream, which will support companies by striving to create consistency in reporting across the value chain.

Will the consortium support worldwide members in varying time zones?

  • Yes. The semiconductor value chain is global, and the SCC is targeting to have regionally appropriate staffing and support. The Governing Council will set meeting dates and time annually, and will be encouraged from the start to accommodate as best as possible the global time differences so participation from all regions can be included.  When possible, we will duplicate the forums; leverage staff in all regions to facilitate information flow and alternating meetings around the clock.

How does the SCC interact with the SEMI Sustainability Advisory Council?

  • The SEMI Sustainability Initiative and Sustainability Advisory Council will address non-climate environmental and ESG topics with a more holistic view of the sustainability efforts of the industry. Monthly Advisory Council meeting will continue and include a briefing on the SCC progress, topics and plans. This will ensure a strong information flow between the two groups and ensure the efforts are complementary.

Governance

Who is on the Governing Council of the SCC?

  • The Governing Council will be comprised of seven (7) elected members in good standing annually. The details of the Governing Council composition, voting, and selection of a Chair can all be found in the Membership Agreement. The GC for the inaugural year is expected to be elected in early-2023 to guide the initial priority-setting.

Who does the Governing Council report to?

  • The Governing Council is accountable to the members of the consortium. The Governing Council will work closely with SEMI’s Sustainability Advisory Council (SAC) to ensure collaboration and efficiency in addressing key focus areas but does not report to the SAC. The Governing Council will have the authority to set the consortium’s agenda and objectives.

Will the meeting hours of the Working Groups be adjusted for international participation?

  • Yes, as much as possible. There will also be staff in each region to ensure activities are active in each region.
