Emerging Chip Technologies for the Age of Ambient Intelligence

As practical limits for transistor miniaturization are reached, alternative approaches for improving the functionality and energy efficiency of integrated circuits (semiconductor “chips”) while maintaining their affordable cost will be necessary to meet growing demand for information and communication technology. This presentation will provide an overview of research being conducted at the University of California, Berkeley to address the need for more energy efficient computing and for wearable and interactive devices, toward the vision of ubiquitous information systems for enhancing health and quality of life in our global society.
