FASTER FABrication- Lessons Learned from the COVID 19 Race for a Vaccine
- CH2M/IDC merged with Jacobs in 2017 creating a $13B professional services leader. Jacobs bring an inspired blend of collaborative creative excellence to clients in a broad range of niche advanced technology industries, including Life Sciences and Semiconductor clients around the world. Jacobs achieved Engineering News Record #1 ranking for Semiconductor Design and Pharmaceuticals again.
- The challenge to build FABs FASTER with ever increasing complexity and size has created opportunities for Jacobs to leverage expertise from other industries.
- Jacobs Life Sciences team was recently challenged to be part of our client’s RACE to produce the COVID-19 vaccine at record speed. Following our values, Jacobs aimed higher and challenged the accepted to develop solutions to accelerate facility design and construction, beating industry benchmarks and creating new best practices for future projects.
SUMMARY in helping our clients to win the race:
- Earlier engagement with critical prime subcontractors and material providers- while maintaining competitive pricing
- Maximized Off-Site Manufacturing and Modularization with goals of greater than 35% of labor hours worked off congested sites
- Larger Modules including building sections being completely furbished
- 3D BIM Models federated between all partners made for integrated concurrent works to proceed, optimal space management and minimal rework
- Concurrent release based on commissioning and pull plan need date
- Early commitments locked in prices and material availability and proper risk mitigation for Just In Time delivery
- EHS during Pandemic maintained with ION Deployment. This Jacobs tool tracks time/location, exposure with others for maintain safe distance and COVID response measures at site only.
The presentation highlights how we successfully deployed for FASTER FABs to be FABricated for semi.
We will provide examples of prefabrication, Off Site Manufacturing, modular construction and integrated BIM modelling. We will demonstrate the progression into the next generation technologies while improving labor productivity and reducing construction labor costs. Schedule and Cost Savings results and global progress to date will be shared as well as future plans.
