BIOGRAPHY

Kazunari Ishimaru, RapidusDr. Kazunari Ishimaru began his career at Toshiba Semiconductor Device Engineering Labs in 1988, where he focused on the development of advanced SRAM and logic technologies. From 1997 to 1998, he served as a Visiting Industrial Fellow at the University of California, Berkeley. In 2006, he was appointed Vice President of Research at Toshiba America Electric Components Inc., where he led the development of 32nm to 20nm CMOS platform technologies in collaboration with IBM, serving as the project leader from Toshiba.

After returning to Japan in 2010, Dr. Ishimaru took on the role of Senior Manager, overseeing logic product manufacturing at Toshiba’s Oita operations. In 2013, he transitioned to the Center for Semiconductor Research and Development at Toshiba Semiconductor Company as a senior manager of the Advanced Memory Technology Development Dept. In 2022, Dr. Ishimaru was appointed Director of the Institute of Memory Technology R&D at Kioxia Corporation. He later joined Rapidus Corporation in April 2023. 

Dr. Ishimaru has held notable positions within the industry, including serving as the General Chair of IEDM in 2011 and as a Scientific Advisory Board member of imec from 2014 to 2018. He was elevated to IEEE Fellow in 2014.
