Mauna Loa Volcano Announcement

Dear ITPC attendees,

In the final runup to ITPC, SEMI and the Fairmont Orchid team have been closely monitoring the news on the Mauna Loa volcano. SEMI has always made the health and safety of our members and guests who attend our events our top priority. Based on the current information, we are proceeding with the conference as planned. Please see this communication from the Fairmont Orchid on their safety assessment:

The safety and security of our guests and colleagues are top priorities at Fairmont Orchid.

As such, we want to assure our guests that we are aware of, and understand, the public’s heightened concerns about Mauna Loa volcano in light of recent news. However, at this time, there are no signs of an imminent eruption, according to the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO). Daily reports on Mauna Loa’s activity have been issued by HVO since September but scientists have confirmed they have not seen indications of an immediate threat.

Please rest assured that we are monitoring the situation closely and continue to work with the Hawai’i County Civil Defense Agency and our own safety officials to ensure that safety and security plans are continuously evaluated and updated. In fact, our property’s security plan includes extensive internal protocols and a wide range of measures in place to protect our guests and colleagues and safeguard our building(s).
