BIOGRAPHY

Shari Barash is serving as Acting Director of the New Chemicals Division in EPA’s Office of Pollution Prevention & Toxics. Shari joined the New Chemicals Division in July 2022 as the Deputy Director. Prior to that she served as the Chief of the National Branch in EPA’s Standards & Health Protection Division in EPA’s Office of Water. She has been a Chemical Engineer with EPA since 1991. In her role as branch chief, Shari managed the development and implementation of policy, regulations, and guidance for the review and approval of state and tribal water quality standards under the Clean Water Act. Shari also managed the National Beach Advisory, the National Fish Advisory, and the National Fish Tissue Contaminant Programs, where she oversaw national sampling of fish tissue for PFAS. Prior to her work in the Standards and Health Protection Division she worked on national technology-based effluent guidelines regulations. Shari received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University.
