BIOGRAPHY
Ilya Zabelinsky is a semiconductor industry technical leader, entrepreneur and advocate for advancing SubFAB
sustainability, reliability and scientific collaboration.
His career spans three decades in semiconductor manufacturing, with deep expertise in vacuum systems, process exhaust management, gas abatement and the broader SubFAB ecosystem. During his career at Intel, Ilya held operational and technical leadership roles supporting fab startups, technology transitions and manufacturing capacity expansions. This experience gave him a broad practical understanding of the complex interfaces between semiconductor processes, production equipment, facilities infrastructure, environmental performance and high-volume manufacturing.
Following his retirement from Intel in 2022, Ilya founded SubFAB4U and co-founded International SubFAB Research Labs, where he serves as President and Chief Technology Officer. His mission is to “bring the science to the SubFAB” by creating neutral, pre-competitive research and validation environments where semiconductor manufacturers, equipment suppliers, materials companies, universities and startups can jointly address challenges that are difficult to investigate within active production fabs.
His current work focuses on reducing the semiconductor industry’s carbon footprint across Scopes 1, 2 and 3, characterizing process exhausts and byproducts, improving gas abatement effectiveness, recovering valuable and critical materials from manufacturing waste streams, and advancing energy and water efficiency, PFAS management, equipment reliability and the safe introduction of new semiconductor materials and processes.
Ilya is also an active contributor to SEMI industry initiatives, technical working groups and workforce-development programs. He develops and delivers professional training on SubFAB technologies and supports organizations across Europe, Israel, Taiwan and the United States in operational improvement, technology readiness, sustainability strategy and emergency recovery.
Ilya holds a B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the Shamoon College of Engineering in Israel. He is passionate about technology, people, safety, sustainability and building the collaborative infrastructure required for the semiconductor industry’s next generation.
