BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Saifi Usmani is the Head of the Planarization business field of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany. In this role, he has the P&L accountability of the company’s planarization solutions business, which is recognized as a leading supplier of innovative CMP slurry solutions for metals and dielectric applications. Saifi has been involved with the Planarization business for over 20 years, mostly based at it’s Tempe, Arizona locations. For a period of 2 years, Saifi also represented the planarization business as General Manager of the DA NanoMaterials JV based in Hsinchu, Taiwan.
Under Saifi’s leadership, EMD Electronics has made significant investments to develop our R&D capabilities in Tempe, Arizona; in Hsinchu County, Taiwan; in Pyeongtaek, Korea and in Shanghai, China. Saifi believes strongly in value creation via innovation, digitalization and collaboration. He started his career as a CMP process engineer at Motorola Inc. followed by several leadership positions in R&D, General Management, Marketing & Sales at DA NanoMaterials JV and Versum Materials.
Saifi Usmani holds a Ph.D. degree in Materials Science and Engineering from the State University of New York, Stony Brook, NY. He holds a Bachelor of Technology degree from the Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur, India. He lives in Ahwatukee, Phoenix, Arizona with his wife and two sons.
