BIOGRAPHY

Carlos H. Diaz, TSMC

Carlos H. Diaz received a B.S. and PhD degree in EE from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In 1998, he joined Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, where he is currently Senior Director in Research and Development. At TSMC, he led the transistor development in six generations of logic technology from 0.18um to 28nm, the pathfinding stages of 10nm and 5nm, and the research stage of the 2nm technology. Since 2018, he has focused on TSMC’s long-term pre-competitive research efforts and represents TSMC on various external research engagements. He has published over 100 technical papers, co-authored one book, and has over 240 US patents. Dr. Diaz is an IEEE Fellow, co-recipient of the 2011 Innovation Breakthrough Award, Ministry of Economic Affairs, Taiwan R.O.C., recipient of the 2016 IEEE Andrew Grove Award, and the 2018 Distinguished Alumni Award in Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
