Grand Challenges for MEMS Augmented Reality & Virtual Reality

ABSTRACT

The last century of computing has set a trajectory of bringing the computer closer to the user, progressing from isolated mainframes to a mainframe in every pocket. Augmented and virtual reality will enable the next generation of computing which brings the computer so close to the user that it seems nonexistent. From displays which mix real and virtual content so well that they are indistinguishable from each other, to input devices which are frictionless and understand a user’s intent, the innovation required is immense. Grand Challenges for MEMS and Sensors in AR/VR are countless, and Ben's talk will highlight some of the biggest challenges the industry is facing and potential paths to bring us closer to seamless human computer interaction.
