Sensing as an AI Service for Smart Home
ABSTRACT
Interior monitoring systems in passenger cars are becoming increasingly vital, driven by two primary factors: (i) stringent legal and regulatory mandates, and (ii) the increasing autonomy levels (L2+). The "child left behind" scenario is already governed by legal provisions in the United States and Europe, with anticipated global adoption. Despite being a prominent solution, camera-based monitoring encounters challenges such as limited line of sight and variable light conditions.
Future interior monitoring solutions also target health monitoring for both drivers and passengers, focusing on areas like drowsiness detection, respiration, and heart rate. This presentation explores complementary approaches to camera-only systems, emphasizing enhanced accuracy and coverage while potentially reusing vehicular access infrastructure. Leveraging commercial ultra-wideband (UWB) radios and/or 60GHz radars, the proposed sensor system integrates advanced AI algorithms tailored to automotive standards.
A technical exposition will delve into the operational mechanics of such sensor systems, complemented by a demonstration featuring automotive applications (video) and onsite showcases of fundamental building blocks, offering a comprehensive insight into the evolving landscape of interior monitoring technology for passenger cars.
