Where Cloud Meets Edge: Custom Silicon for Secure, Intelligent, and Connected Systems

ABSTRACT

Rapid advances in IoT for device connectivity, coupled with machine learning and advanced analytics, have led to an explosion in demand for secure and scalable computing and storage products and services, in the cloud and at the edge. AI/ML is at the heart of many the newest, most advanced analytics and IoT applications, ranging from robotics and autonomous vehicles, to cloud-connected products such as Alexa, to smart factories and consumer-facing services in the financial and healthcare sectors. These products and services benefit from custom or application-specific semiconductor technologies.

This talk presents examples of IoT, AI, and high-performance computing use-cases enabled by cloud, as well examples of how Amazon and its customers increasingly rely on custom silicon solutions to drive year-over-year increases in performance and scalability. The talk concludes with an example of using IoT, AI, and digital twin for smart manufacturing and smart operations in a safety-critical industry.
