Tracey Carey leads Midwest Urban Strategies (MUS), a consortium of high-performing urban workforce development boards from across the Midwest. With more than $32 million in federal and philanthropic investment secured, MUS supports local service delivery along with a growing portfolio of business and service partners, The consortium’s mission is to grow the capacity of the workforce system through partnerships with business, labor, education, community-based organizations, and other workforce system stakeholders to advance equity and improve economic vitality.

Prior to her tenure with MUS, Ms. Carey enjoyed more than two decades of service developing and supporting workforce development programs and strategies. As the Director of Strategic Initiatives for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee, Tracey facilitated the summer youth employment program that provided first jobs for more than 500 young people annually. She led planning and strategy development at Employ Milwaukee and supported the founding and startup of Midwest Urban Strategies during that tenure. In 2018, she joined the staff at Partner4Work, the workforce development board for the City of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County, PA. as its Chief Strategy Officer. Then, in 2019, she led the establishment of MUS as an independent nonprofit corporation, establishing 501c3 status for the corporation in its first year of operation. Tracey continues to lead the growth and development of MUS in its efforts to improve the economic conditions throughout its member areas.

Ms. Carey holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee, Certificate in Women’s Studies from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee, Summa cum laude, Certificate in Non-Profit Management from the Center for Non-Profit Management, and Business and Economic Development Finance Professional Certification from the National Development Council.
