Assistant Professor and Principal Investigator Mayo Clinic
Dr. Hakan Ceylan is a biomedical engineer and an expert in small-scale robotics. He is an Assistant Professor and Principal Investigator at Mayo Clinic, where he founded the Medical Microrobots Lab in 2022. His research focuses on translational microrobot systems for entirely atraumatic medical interventions. Before joining Mayo Clinic, Dr. Ceylan was a Senior Scientist at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in Stuttgart, Germany where he received his training. Dr. Ceylan has multiple patents with more than 30 publications in leading multidisciplinary research journals such as Science Robotics, Advanced Materials, Science Advances, and ACS Nano. His studies have been recognized with multiple awards for best paper, best talk, and science-as-art achievements. His contributions to the field have earned him prestigious honors, including the 2023 American Heart Association (AHA) Career Development Award, 2024 Career Development Award in Cardiovascular Disease Research Honoring Dr. Earl W. Wood, and 2025 Mayo Clinic Arizona Moonshot Ideation Award for Transforming Transplant.
