Saifi Usmani, EMD Electronics

Vice President, Global Industry Sustainability Programs, SEMI

Dr. Saifi Usmani joined SEMI in July 2025 and leads the global industry sustainability programs at SEMI.Our flagship climate and energy initiatives include, respectively, the Semiconductor Climate Consortium andthe Energy Collaborative. SEMI has taken the lead to launch these collaboration platforms with an objectiveto enable supply of abundant clean electricity while driving GHG emissions reductions by cross-leveragingongoing initiatives and collective knowledge across the semiconductor value-chain. 

Before joining SEMI, Saifi was the Head of the Planarization Business at EMD Electronics, a business ofMerck KGaA of Darmstadt, Germany. As P&L owner of a significantly large business with major operationsin Taiwan, Korea and the US, Saifi led his business to record growth in sales and profitability by focusing thebusiness strategy and innovation on the fast-growing opportunities in AI chip production; enabled by atransparent B2B collaboration model to drive innovation; propelled by machine learning driven, disruptive,cost-efficient and sustainable supply chain; supported by efficient capital and operational management.

Saifi Usmani holds a Ph.D. degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Stony Brook University and aB. Tech. from IIT Kanpur, India. He started his career as a process engineer in IC production at Motorolafollowed by diverse global roles in the electronic chemicals industry at DA NanoMaterials and VersumMaterials. Saifi has led technical, sales and marketing teams across the US and Asia and his teams haveachieved significant sales growth at leading edge IC customers by inculcating a culture of responsiveness,trust and innovation across the organizations combined with a keen understanding of relationship drivers, astrong business acumen and a “hands-on,” tenacious disposition. Saifi has also lived in Taiwan as the GMfor DA NanoMaterials in Asia, where he led the significant growth of the Taiwan foundry revenues by buildinga local ecosystem including the Asia HQ and Apps Lab near the Hsinchu Science Park in Taiwan.

Outside of work, Saifi enjoys traveling with family, gardening and handyman projects at his house.
