Teck Khiong graduated from Loughborough University, UK with Master of Science in Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM).

He has more than 20 years of experience in delivering manufacturing IT solutions to global Backend (Assembly and Test) Semiconductor Manufacturing, ranging from equipment, factory, process control, material handling automation and manufacturing execution systems (MES).

He is currently driving Smart Manufacturing projects with strong focus in the area of connect & control using IoT (Internet of Things) and analytics technologies.

Presentation Title:
Case Study Presentation 2: Connecting the 4Ms at Backend IoT - Reduction of Labour Cost and Improve Capital Efficiency

Infineon Singapore leverages IoT technology and infrastructure substantially in the Smart Factory journey where IoT is seen beyond getting “Things” (equipment, devices) connected. It also covers the “Services” (applications) (Internet of Services - IoS) and communication between the 4M in the smart network, and hence developing the factory into a higher integration level between cyberspace and physical world. The aim is to maximize integration & automation and networked information from the “Things” and Services” to optimize decision-making and full execution control over end-to-end production value network, down from equipment all the way up the MES and Factory Automation control systems.

3 major aspects namely equipment, applications and smart platform are fully exploited to realize the interconnectivity within the manufacturing. On equipment level, a generic IoT automation framework has been created to cover both standard SECS/GEM and legacy (TCP/IP, files etc.) communication protocols for comprehensive raw data collection. Application layer is defined as the digital backbone to process the raw data that being collected through work method digitalization and directly from equipment. A new MES is introduced with integrated workflow and eliminating paper transaction in shop floor, and standard middleware message bus are enable for real-time data and information exchange between equipment and upper layer control applications. Finally, to leverage abundance data for intelligent shop floor control, smart mobile and visual analytic solutions are introduced to connect Man with essential data for real-time execution and fast decision-making. With the seamless integration of 4M (Man-Machine-Material-Method) using the IoT and IoS technologies, Infineon Singapore successfully harvest the benefits of labour cost reduction and capital efficiency improvement.
