Global disruptions stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic combined with the U.S.-China trade war have exposed vulnerabilities in supply chain strategies across nearly every industry. The semiconductor industry in no exception: Its supply chain relies heavily on the interconnectedness of global economies and the free flow of goods and data across borders.
Companies worldwide are moving decisively to protect employees and secure supply chains in the face of the pandemic. And the struggle is far from over, with many countries still imposing selective lockdowns and social-distancing.
With so much uncertainty continuing to confront the industry, SEMI has been working diligently across all of our platforms and regions to help sustain member companies. To that end, executives and other staff from SEMI headquarters met up with SEMI Southeast Asia Advisory Board members through a virtual meeting to provide updates of SEMI’s efforts to support members in the region.
SEMI Global Advocacy Supports Chip Industry as U.S.-China Trade Tensions Escalate
Top of the agenda during the virtual meeting was the escalating trade war and recent U.S.-Sino geopolitical tensions that have been disrupting semiconductor manufacturing supply chains. Serving as the voice for the semiconductor industry on public policy, the SEMI Global Advocacy team has been intensifying its lobbying efforts with U.S. lawmakers to influence public policy and advance the industry’s interests.
SEMI will continue to refine how it serves member interests and needs in order to respond more quickly to the fast-moving geo-political developments. “We need to stay ahead of the curve and weather the storm together,” SEMI CEO Ajit Manocha stressed during the meeting.
