Why Mentor? Why Be Mentored?
Everyone knows the importance of mentoring to career success. This is especially true for women and under-represented people. But what does it actually mean to be mentored or be a mentee?
Mentors encourage and support mentees and contribute to their professional and personal development. But they can also impact the career development of a future leader, contribute to developing the next generation of industry innovators, advance your leadership skills and develop business acumen and critical thinking skills.
Mentees look for guidance and advice on how to further a career and be successful by gaining skills and confidence necessary to excel. Being a mentee allows you to grow professional networks, learn to navigate workplace challenges, develop necessary leadership skills and acumen, and explore opportunities and build your career path.
How do you find the right mentor? What is your obligation to a mentee? What are the biases that might impact mentorship? Does the gender of a mentor or mentee make a difference?
