Secretary MeitY, Government of India

S. Krishnan is posted as Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of  India,  New  Delhi  since 11th September 2023.   MeitY’s vision is  the  e-development of India using technology as the engine for transition to a developed nation and an empowered society. MeitY’s mission is to promote e-governance, Electronics and Semiconductor Manufacturing, IT & ITeS industries, Internet Governance, development of human resources, R&D and innovation, Emerging Technologies, digital services and ensuring a secure cyberspace. 

Krishnan is a member of the Indian Administrative Services for the past 35 years and has wide experience in range of assignments in the Government of Tamil Nadu, Government of India and International Monetary Fund.

He served as Additional Chief Secretary in Industries, Investment Promotion & Commerce Department, Government of Tamil Nadu from November 2021 to August 2023.

He was Additional Chief Secretary in the Finance Department, Principal Secretary in the Housing and Urban Development and in the Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Departments. He was the founder CEO of the Tamil Nadu Infrastructure Development Board.  He also served as the Chairman of the Fifth Tamil Nadu State Finance Commission. He also managed corporate entities fully and partnered by the Government of Tamil Nadu. 

He served as the Senior Advisor in the Office of the Executive Director for India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Bhutan in the International Monetary Fund (Washington DC) and represented the Government of India in the G20 Expert Groups on International Financial Architecture and Global Financial Safety Nets.

In the Government of India, he was Deputy Director in the LBSNAA (Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration) for 4 years from 2000 to 2004 and Private Secretary to the Union Finance Minister for 2004 to 2007.

He was District Collector of Virudhunagar District where he calmed a volatile situation and ensured implementation of development programmes in a 3-year tenure. He was also Deputy Secretary (Budget) in the Finance Department in Tamil Nadu for 4 years.
